Carmel high school is also a hybrid schedule
Select I hope I said that correctly. They're watching from Whiteland Community High School from home. We have some more been dead lot of Ben Davis here.
So Ben Davis so actually been Davis. I'll be at your college. Fear that your virtual college fair. I wouldn't be able to see in person like I normally do normally. Each year I actually get the chance to travel to Indianapolis during this time to do the Ben Davis fares. The National College Fair. That's normally at the Convention Center to see all you guys with this year. Things are a little bit different so I still get the chance to see you, but I'll be seeing you virtually at Ben Davis. We have Carmel High School if you in the Indianapolis area.
Deb Gosselin
12:06:29 PM
Yes, she's doing virtual school right now
Reach out to Ben Davis High School that are putting on a great fair every year. But this year is not going to be any different. Just is going to be online so reach out to them and see if you could take a chance to be a part of their College Fair Bendavid. So now that we have a few PN looks like we have just about everybody right now. Thank you guys for being so active in the chat, but my name is Steven Piggy. The second I'm working in the office of admissions here at Purdue University Northwest I'm.
And currently in my fifth year on staff with the office of admissions, but before I was on staff, I was actually a student here at Purdue University Northwest. When I graduated class or 2014.
So almost about 5 six years removed from campus, but they couldn't keep me away long. I actually wind up staying here on campus during my time at the student. I was actually working as a student worker in the office of amendment of emissions, so they gave me opportunity to see things from a student lens and actually get hands on and meet with the staff and meet current students or perspective students. Rather like yourselves on the student level and now get there to do that same job, Justin.
Professional since so my role here with the University I oversee the recruitment.
And events without the office of admissions house.
So I currently have about five or six staff members that my oversee and man I don't really like saying the word manage because I feel like our team is really great here and they don't need any management, so I just like to use the word oversee oversee their day-to-day operations and things like that, so that should give you a little bit inside of who I am.
Experience that I have and possibly any questions that I can answer for you throughout this presentation. So sit back, I could have a quick video for you and then we'll go ahead and get started.
My experience here has been great. I have a very strong connection to other students. Everyone makes an effort to help each other.
I'm getting the opportunity to meet people getting the opportunity to build relationships not only with faculty but also with students, small class sizes, and TW allow a lot of collaboration. See people wanting study groups all the time.
You been involved in another one thing annoys gonna advocate to other teams. A lot of it is effective and hearing other peoples opinions, you are different, but each one is bringing something to the table.
One of the most important things I think is being able to build the relationship between protesting almost every single professor and I'm on.
I have been able to go to that provides actually know that they're supporting you, and on my side and want the best for me.

By building that relationship a faculty, I'll be able to get involved with research. This is really important for my career path. He gets to see all of the practical application of things that you're like. It's one thing to read about procedure or an idea, but versus actually going into the lab says if we do it responsibly.

The education that we're earning his active learning so it prepares us to do the job that we're going to do in graduate.
I feel that I will carry forward the memories that I had while at BMW.
Remember the feeling of being here? The feeling that I was a part of the family.
I'm part of something in apartment bigger.
So who are we? Who are? What is Purdue University northwest? So in the chat, let me know if you heard of Purdue University, Purdue University northwest before. But if you haven't were Premier Metropolitan University and we accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
Deb Gosselin
12:10:40 PM
Yes
A’Naria Anderson
12:10:47 PM
yes
Higher Learning Commission and we're committed to empowering transferential change not only in our students, but in the community that are that we reside. So we offer two campuses and we serve currently just about 10,000 students under. That's undergraduate and graduate students on our campus and at Purdue University. We really, really promote academic excellence. We want to support your growth, whether it's academically professionally or in leadership.
Every celebrate diversity.
And so our two locations that we offer, we offer a hammer campus. Both our campuses are located in Northwest Indiana and both our campuses, about roughly 30 to 35 minutes apart of each other. So we have a hammer. Campus is less than 30 miles from downtown Chicago, and it features it's a residential campus. It has housing on this campus. It's about almost close to 200 and 300 acres worth of buildings in just.
I'm learning space.
Let me have a westville campus is in Westville. IN is actually 15 minutes from the United States, 61st National Park, so our students get the chance to take advantage of visiting the National Park. And if you haven't heard of the National Park is called Indiana Dunes. Forget the chance to just relax sightsee or even do researcher that part and just recently, probably.
I've got a year or so ago. We we received Gabis Arboretum and so gave us operating is another external site off of our two locations, but it's right dead in the middle in Valparasio, Indiana and it's a lot of formal gardens, Woodlands, waste wetlands preserves where our students could really get their hands on experience in research in nature. So about biological science students really, really get the chance to take advantage of that.
But not just them. Any students, they have different events. I'm at the beginning of semester this year. We actually had a drive in movie for our students because the ground is so big so students were able to pull in with their friends in their cars because we can't really get together. We have to social distance and we still want to be able to have different events in fun activities for our students. And that was one way we did that was through a drive in movie where you were able to drive in, bring your snacks, bring your food, hang out.
Social distance in your car and have a fun activity to kind of get away from academics 'cause we know not everything is all about academics. Of course academics appointment, but you definitely need a mental debrief to be able to perform well in your classes. So we want to provide those opportunities. Other opportunities that we had that we are able to take advantage of on our campuses was we normally do color fun run there. Should we add to that virtually as well? But normally those are events that we have on campus.
That we could get to use the land and get to use the different campuses or spaces that we offer.
So a little bit about PMW. We offer over 70 areas of study, different programs in the College of business, college engineering and Sciences. We call this one is pretty long name, but we call it chess and it's for the College of Humanities education in social Sciences. We have the College of Nursing in the College of Technology, so we offer programs within those five academic colleges. As I noted earlier, we do serve approximately 10,000 students, that's.
Undergrad and graduate level courses. So Miss Dare if you ever wanted to come back to school and you know possibly get your graduate degree or anything like that, we may have an opportunity for you for that or any other parents out there that may want to do that as well.
A big surface can be very, very proud of as our freshman academic profile. So just about all the refreshment, incoming class and even our population on campus. There students just like you. That's coming straight from high school and of those students that we bring in each year, 98% of those students are full time college students. So that means they're taking 12 or more credit hours right here on campus. It's something we really probably could begin. The students end. We're making sure there full time. So then we can make sure that we retain them.
And get them ready to graduate and art into the career force. As I mentioned, diversity, who represented by 47 plus countries on our two campuses and then when you leave in time to graduate, you will be going into the alumni community. That's over 66,000 plus. And if you're like me, you were looking for do after college search that you want to find a campus that they kind of fish your needs. And when you had a question, you be able to answer, would it just be?
Another number or statistic in the classroom. We offer the opportunity for you with the 12 to one faculty, teacher ratio and so on. Average or average class size would be roughly anywhere between 12 to 20 students in the Class A lot of our freshman courses that first semester maybe taking prereqs or anything like that, so those courses maybe a little bit bigger 'cause we have our full.
Freshman class coming into those courses onto teacher. So for example, some of those courses could be English 101 or 104. English is of course the entry level that all students will have to take. Another course could be communication 114, which is probably one of my favorite classes here. I mean with that class she really, really get the chance to dive into communication that help you speak better. Talk with your hands, look better, fix your facial expressions while you're talking.
So I really, really was very interactive. I really, really enjoy that course.
So how many business majors do we have or want to be? Just like just dropped in the comment section right now and this session is going to be all about you. So our College of business, they are nationally ranked in the credit it as you can see on your screen we do. He's are some of the accreditations that we offer so double CSB that is the highest accreditation College of business can receive an only about 5 to 10%.
Of College of college businesses programs on college campuses in the nation has received discreditation, so I'm happy. I'm happy to announce that Purdue Northwest or P&W, as we call it around here, has received that accreditation. Another accreditation that we have is for the program that you see highlighted on your screen. So we have in a partnership with white lodging. White lodging is a big hospitality and tourism brand and they started right here in Northwest Indiana. They have hotels.
All over the state into my Indianapolis Frances watching you may see the JW hotel downtown not too far from Lucas Oil. That's a white lodging hotel, so they actually partnered with us to create the school of hospitality tourism management. Right here on our campus so our students are able to get hands-on training in hospitality industry in the tourism industry and in the management industry with.
In those two fields right here on our campus and so then once they graduate, alot of those students are going right into jobs with say market or or white lodging. I'm sorry, not market Marriott white lodging the Radisson Brand Walt Disney World in Hyatt. Those are just some of the industries where HTM students are going into an employers. They're going to other programs. We have accounting. We have management.
Marketing we have finance, so anything within the business industry that you wanted to get ahold of and take advantage of, we could possibly offer it. So in the comments section I'm going to post or College of business website. So for you guys who are interested in the College of business you can.

Yeah, it's all programs that we are within their car and said you have a ton anyway from time all the way down to management that you could take advantage of. Even some banking programs as well if you wanna get into the banking industry.
So next is going to be our college for engineering and Sciences. Again, they are nationally ranked an accredited. We actually just receive again another ranking from the US news and World Report. Just came out probably earlier this week that our engineering programs is nationally right. We are accredited by ABET, and so they're interviewing accrediting agency for engineering and technology programs. Top engineering programs receive that accreditation and so.
Lot of our graduates they go to on to work for employers like Arcelor Mittal who was a big an engineering company right here in the region in Northwest Indiana. In the Chicago land area, the National Park Service for our biology students. NASA is a big one. Actually we send our students down to Nazwa Alabama every summer. I believe this is the first summer we did not have the opportunity to send them down there to compete in National Manassas.
Rover competition we have won that competition afew years in play and even place. I'm in ranked in the top five within the last few years in their competition. So you're able to get hands-on training. I actually love this photo because throughout the summer and spring when the weather is nice and even sometimes in the winter time when I drive through campus, I see the students using this instrument here.
All throughout the grass and things like that, it really just makes my heart warm. Just seeing him get their hands on training. We actually just had one of our student workers within the office of admissions. He was engineering soon he just came and picked up his degree on Monday and he was telling me how he has a job offer. A few job offers already in the one that he's planning to take varies very soon, so he was heading back home. He did not live right so he's headed back home. So no suggest things you could take advantage of here on our campus in those.
Stories are available to you throughout any of our colleges.
Are chess as I mentioned we it's college, humanities, education, social Sciences, and they have the school of education and counseling. This was the college that I was apart of when I was a student here on campus. I majored in communication with the emphasis in broadcasting. And so as you can see, some more employers down there. We have ESPN, WGN, one of my classmates who I was in class when she actually lives in Laelae now and she works for.
Cheats there shows for NBC, she worked on Ellen. She's worked with Nick Elonian currently and I have another friend. He works he works in Chicago for ABC. He does all their broadcasting. Their editing of the television shows things like that, a big, big program that we have been actually.
Is getting a lot of traction nationally. It's gonna be our criminal justice program. And so it was really is getting a lot of traction now because that's recently some of our students and our professor Nikki Jackson. They actually helped get a conviction overturned for someone who has spent a few years in prison for something he did not do and he was actually innocent. So our students and our professor Nikki Jackson worked with outside legal team.
And they did a collaboration. They actually help get this person free.
So those are a lot of things that you're able to do. Get your hands dirty right here. So then when it's time for the transition and go into their career force, you actually know these things and employers are more apt to want to bring you onto their team because they know you know how to do these things. The same goes for interesting technology. They know how you know how to do the equipment even when nursing.
Another program that you get hands-on training in it. PNW. We are accredited through the center of nursing and excellence.
We have a 96 or 97 and collects pass right within our college nursing. So what that means of our students, they're going through the program. They're getting their hands on, training there, doing it, clinicals there, graduating, and then they're taking enc. Lex S. I'm in her past that and then they are able to go right instead of workforce. And so a lot of these hosts, the hospitals that you see under your screen here are local hospitals within the Northwest Indiana region, but we do have students who have worked for IU Health down in Indianapolis.
Chicago rush Northwestern Hospital Riley children hospital downtown Indianapolis as well so we do have graduates that go off and work in different areas. And actually since I know we have a lot of Indianapolis students here with this right now, we actually have a big big alumni are population down.
In the Indianapolis area, and so if you would like to ever talk to someone from alumni against this, send me email, give me a phone call and I could get you paired up with someone from our alumni team where you can actually get a chance to meet with them. Once we are able to actually meet face to face again or to pick their brain about how they experience was here at PNW.
We have a college technology. They had different programs all the way from electrical engineering technology to computer information technology, computer graphics technology, one big one within the.
College of technology is going to be our cyberspace cybersecurity and actually our campus is a National Center excellent for cyber defects in education and so we were granted that Excellence Award through the US Department of Homeland Security and the NSA, the National Security Agency. In so our students in the cyber security there actually being taught education that will allow them to graduate.
And go work for the government to help build our cyber security and makers safe environment for digitally in our cyberspace.
We do have our honors college here on campus so sometimes I get a lot of questions about what is the honors college. Why should I join the honest college etc etc.
And so with the Honors College, it's a great program for someone that's highly motivated that want to be involved more with peer peer instruction more involved with instruction, which are professors and things like that. Different benefits of joining the Honors College. They have internship opportunities, scholarship opportunity just for their students research. You could become a teaching assistant and even graduates if you tend to go on to Graduate School.
In this study abroad opportunities, when, where and let it able to present the opportunity for you again.
So not everyone can apply to Honors College. You do have to have a certain GPA to be invited to apply to the honors college. That GPA is around a 3.4.
And then if you have a GPA, because now we're only using GPS since the test score and I'll explain that a little bit later, you will receive the invite once you apply to consider opportunity to apply to the Honors College.
We have exploratory advising on campus so those aren't. This is going to be an area so say some of those colleges that are already mentioned to you but nothing stands out or none of the major stands out for you and you just want to come in is undecided. We do accept soon as undecided and it's OK to be an excited. So we created this little Department that's called exploratory advising. So exploratory advising has advisors in there that a coach and mentor you and help you put you on a path.
For akarere that she would like to do so, you'll come in, you will start taking your prereqs and during that time they will be working with you to help pinpoint the area where you may feel comfortable in starting to Korean. Whether this is in nursing, whether that's in finance, whether that's an broadcasting like myself or if it's in Swanton technology programs, or if you want to go in to be a scientist, they will help coach to administer due to get you on the right path towards akarere that you.
Feel comfortable going with so ask questions when you're working with any of your vices. But most importantly, your exploratory advise, because that's what they're there for. The help you, Mr you and coach you through the process.
And again, like I said, Don't worry or feel bad that she may be undecided. It's OK, we work with you and actually enjoy working with you when you underside it because we get to show you everything that PMW has to offer and allow you to choose something going from there.
So now we only get to the application the application process at PMW is very, very simple, quick and easy, and so as I mentioning right after this broadcast is actually in partnership with the Indiana learning for higher education learning.
And so we're partnering with them for their college go initiative, and so throughout the month of September, or applications for incoming freshman is going to be way so as you see, the $25 application fee. No incoming freshman has to pay that so you can go on our website at www.pnw.edu/apply.
Stephan Piggee
12:29:41 PM
www.pnw.edu/apply
And I'll type it in the chat right now for you, so it's easier for you to get to it. You could go on there and create your online profile and you can submit your application electronically. That online profile will allow you to go in and always check your status. See your different application portals. They will change the look of the portals will change as you go through different steps in with enrollment process.
Frank Sek
12:30:16 PM
Hello everyone!
And then we have different. Once you get admitted to accept your offer, we have different things that happens when it goes through there once you're admitted so along with the application, we will need your official high school transcripts.
So we submitted to us. They can be submitted via Mail. Someone can Mail them to us, or they can be submitted electronically to our emissions at pnw.edu email address that I posted in the chat a little bit earlier.
To be considered official, the transfers have to be sent from someone from your University. They can't come directly from you. To be considered officially had to be someone from your high school that could send them to us to be considered official.
And then as I mentioned the application fee is going to be waived in the month of September and then we can last for knowledge. We have a personal statement. So the personal statement is not required. But it is recommended so anytime you're right on the global foreign Mr decision or for scholarship opportunity. We are office. We do go back and we do read those personal statements and we will go back and read to see if it's something in that personal statement that makes your application filed stronger so apart of the application is going to be sexually that you could type something out for personal statement.
Oraquick essay or anything like that, or if you feel you want some time to think about it, you can submit your application without the personal statement and you could send us the personal statement later as a Word document and will attach it to your file there. So if you don't have the personal statement complete and you say no, I don't wanna submit my application right now. Go ahead and submit the application now so the application fee can be waived and then you can always submit us the personal statement later because we'll be waiting still wait.
For your transcripts and things like that.
So when it comes to test scores, Purdue Northwest has decided to become test optional for this year. So we first made the decision at the beginning of COVID-19 back in March and we decided to keep that status for this upcoming year and so.
Students will not be required to submit the essay T or AC T, but if you feel that those scores will help your file, you will have the opportunity and we encourage you to submit those test scores. But if you don't have it, don't worry about panicking about trying to add extra stress. Could you know how stressful times all right now? And even with students doing school from home? We don't want to add any extra stress to you so we are test optional and if you have any more in depth questions about what their test.
Deb Gosselin
12:32:55 PM
Should students apply in junior year or senior year?
Optional process looks like or things like that and you wanna talk on a one on one basis. Our staff is here to help you get those questions answered.
Lana Batts
12:32:58 PM
What is a example of a good personal statement?
It's time to take a break for a second before I move on to the next slide. 'cause we do have some questions that come through. Miss Deb Axe students apply in their junior or senior so students will apply in their senior year. The transcripts that students will submit will be up until their junior year and that's what we will make the decision off of. But at Purdue Northwest we do things a little bit differently because we always want to look out for the best interest of the student.
So say if the junior transcript, the GPA is right on the border or as a little bit lower than our standards, we will not deny that student at that time we will have someone from our staff reach out to their student do email text in a personal phone call to explain the situation and we will hold your file and we'll wait till that first semester. Senior year grades or normal running time. It'll be sometime in January when students will get there first.
Semester of their senior grades and we will use that transcript to re evaluate the application file then. But great question Mr death so this will apply.
In their senior year I'm in each year for the last two to three years. We have waive the application fee during September 4 college, go some school, just do the week for college go week, but we do the whole month and so each year for the last year so I don't see that going away. So if your student is a junior now next year around, this time she will have the opportunity to apply for free and get chance to, you know, submit transfer things like that. But you guys who are seniors now and you have not submitted application now is the time to do that.
And as I mentioned, it will be free because of college. Go month, Lana asks what is a good example of a personal statement. So personal statement is really opportunity where you can tell us anything that you want us to know about you because some schools they may have essay prompts that she will use. We don't really limit you to a prompt because everyone situation is different, so some students they may talk about if they had a trauma or something serious that have went on.
In there.
Light timer do after high school they may write about that and an in which sometimes it helps because sometimes I can look at the transcript of students grades from freshman year South. South Korean era junior year, first semester junior they were awesome. But then second semester junior they begin to sleep. So in so in my mind when I'm looking at the transcript and re evaluating those files something rings a Bell. It's like OK, something happened to the student because this student wasn't.
Awesome student throughout all those semesters and now something happened. So you subsidize will take that personal statement to write something out that substitutes are right why they want to attend Purdue University Northwest. Maybe it's because there are a child of alumni and they want to continue or legacy. Maybe they heard great things about our programs so they are right about that. But really, it's whatever you want us to know. Or if you have a prompt that you already written for another University, you want to send that to us based off of certain prompt.
You can send that to us as well on the weekend. Take a look at your personal statement, whereas saying evaluates writing style from that good questions. Those two excellent questions.
In so i'ma go ahead and continue on. We have a few more slides and then we're going to get the student panel started and so will be starting the student panel and roughly about 5 minutes. We have a few more slides and then also because we can't offer a campus tour currently right now, I decided to bring the campus towards you guys. So I have a quick video of what of experience in my campus that you will be able to get the chance to see right? For the student panel. So how much does it cost to attend Purdue University Northwest?
So far in state residents, I believe just about everyone on this presentation webinar today is going to be in state, and so which are direct costs. I mean, that's only the tuition and fees, so the the red costs when every time you hear that is tuition and fees at Purdue Northwest for in state student, you're looking at about 7940. Two $1000 for the year, so that's for the year, not a semester for the year. Any out of state soon as that may be on this web and R.
You're looking at 11,523 dollars.
For the year, and that's only tuition and fees. Other expenses that you may see on your estimated financial aid award would be personal expenses, books and supplies, loan fees, transportation we do not.
Put that in our costs when we're doing these presentations because we want you to see and directly but affects you personally expenses. Those are things that the government estimates that you will spend, say on hygiene materials, things like that.
I'm not sure who will spend that much on on hygiene materials, but so those are things that problem that you shouldn't be worried about paying for it definitely not. $2000 square books and supplies, but I'm sure once we get the student panel going, they could tell you about how much they will personally spend on books. I know for myself and my past experience. I've never spent that, but you do have a bookstore on campus and other websites where you could get books through now, like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Deb Gosselin
12:38:56 PM
Do you accept the common app?
Chegg another websites where you could possibly get books for cheaper, so that's why we do not estimate those indirect costs. We only highlight the direct costs, which is the tuition and fees Miss Debbie axe. Do you accept the common app so we are not on the common app? The only way to apply to our University is going to be through our website at the link that I provided in the chat, so I know our main campus down in West Lafayette. They are on the common app.
But our campus is not. So if you're looking at supplies for Purdue Northwest, make sure you go directly to our website. And the reason we did this because with the common app it's a lot of steps in a lot of materials that they require versus our application is very quick in and down to the details that Mindy Grady and what we need to know about you versus the common app is so common that they have a lot of things. A lot of process and steps we have to go through that may be required for this institution but not necessary arms.
Or maybe where are in solution but not necessary there. So to eliminate all the confusion and make it easier for the student as a prayer. 'cause this is a family process even though the student would be the one that's actually sitting in the classroom.
The college experience is the is for the full entire family moved to technically when we're talking to you, the student were talking to the parents will, so we want to make sure every step of the way is going to be simple for you.
Great question is that.
And as I mentioned, we do have that chat, so anytime you have a chat more question or concern or comment, just drop it in the chat box and as they come up I will go ahead and answer.
As they come in, so now the financial aid process that financial and that fast food will be opening in October. So next month, indiana's deadline priority deadline an PMW priority deadline is going to be on April 15th, 2021.
So that is the day. Currently depending on what's the status of the coronavirus and things like that, that may or may not get extended. I know this past year was extended due to the coronavirus or things like that, but as of now that date is April 15th, 2021.
And so we do recommend all students to complete a faster. Make sure you add our school code or school code is 001827 and once we add our school code, our financial 18 will be able to get your fasfa and get your documents and build you an estimated financial aid packet.
As you go throughout the process and accept your offer, they will go ahead and finalize that packet and you will get a notification sent to your email. Also, once you get admitted, you will have access to your portal, we call it the my P&W Portal and their financial aid information will be there as well. Always recommend students always check those things for financial aid because sometimes they will send you a notification center.
Waiting or something and you're sitting home waiting like wait. I haven't heard for PMW for financial aid and sometimes they may be waiting on a document, or you may have been selected for verification or anything like that. So always check in with financial aid to see where they are in the process with your file and don't just assume that you have heard anything. So maybe there still working on it. Always stay in contact just to make sure that everything is on the up and up.
So we do have scholarship opportunities. The academic achievement scholarship is one that I'm going to highlight today so that academic achievement scholarship is scholarship awarded by the office of admissions, and so there's no separate application for this scholarship. So when you apply for University, essentially you're applying for our admissions an art scholarship. You do have to have certain criteria to possibly be in consideration.
For that scholarship and you need to be applied in admitted by December, 1st for scholarship consideration for their scholarship.
Our University Merit based scholarships. Those were also open in October and it's best soon as you apply soon as that opens. Apply for those as well. The earlier you apply for those University merit scholarships, the better your chances are it possibly receiving some of those scholarships. So in October and there Scott deadline is gonna be February 1st.
Always recommend to incoming students to apply by December 1st, so that way you know for sure that you meet there.
The deadline for the University merit scholarships and so as you can see some other ones that we highlight on there are going to be some of the popular ones that we had. We offer so we have children of veterans. We have the Lexus Jarrett women scholarship there. They're organization right here in Northwest Indiana Nipsco with with who is our energy supplier in this region. They offer a scholarship for a leadership here and then. We have many more. We have the alumni community, they offer scholarships to.
Dependence of PMW alumni. So if you have any of your parents was a lum here, you may be open for opportunity to get it scheduled, and we have plenty of more. Just visit the link that's included on this graphic to see all the scholarship opportunities that we offer.

Does completing the FAFSA early give you begter chance at financial aide?
Miss dare mention, does completing the faster.
Early give you a better chance in financial aid so I'm gonna say Yes, it gives you a complainant early. Definitely get your file on the desk of someone for financial aid. Much earlier will begin to build you a package they don't. They will go off of your need and things that's on the faster so.
I wouldn't really say that because you completed earlier. You get your gonna get awarded more dollars or things like that because they go out for need and stuff like that. But it will get on the desk sooner. The earlier you apply and get there fast food at our school code to it.
So the next few slides I'm just going to offer very, very quick touchpoint. As I mentioned on hammer campus, it is a residential campus. We do have two residence halls. We call them peregrine Hall in Griffin Hall.
They are apartment style housing facility, so there are 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms and then we have a few 2 bedroom 1 bathroom that costs a little bit more so the cars that you see on your screen for $5707.00 that is going to be for the four bedroom 2 bathroom apartment sweet and so every student will have their own room and you will share the bathroom with one other person. I'm there are computer labs with printing on each floor.
Lodging facilities on each floor. Wi-Fi throughout the full complex, and even area where the housing residence halls are.
From house we have 24/7 staff on hand in RA's and things like that on hand so if you do have any questions or concerns or any issues throughout your time of living in the residence Hall, someone will be there to help answer your questions that get your needs met.
So I thought we should. Before FTW. We really, really promote growth and leadership and making sure success in the classroom. So some of the resource that we offered to help promote those things.
We have the writing center, so if you need a little extra help Orient which are writing or want someone to proofread it before it's a minute, we have it there. Always have to give this disclaimer that they will not write the paper for you sometime soon. As I get that question all the time, like wait I could go there and then write my paper. No, that's not what they do. They will be. They give you pointers, help make you help, make improvements to your paper and just overall. Just make sure that you have a second I in some tips before submitting that paper so you get the best way possible.
Career Center and that's the Queen Center is something that you can use even after you graduate, so you can actually get admitted inside. Our online platform is called bright space. They do alot event to a lot of webinars through that platform and get you prepared. So when it's time graduate you are going right into the workforce. The counseling center if you need help dealing with any kind of mental health or just need to debrief from class, they have someone that like their rate will.
Work with you to talk things over.
Supplemental instruction, so supplemental instruction is another form of tutoring, and so if you're anything like me, when I was in high school, I could fly through a lot of my work, and once I got to college, that wasn't the same case, so I had to go to tutoring, and I had to come out private side. And I'm with the tutoring. We do offer a health clinic on each campus so our students, our community students, and even foxy itself. We could use the help. Planning said we have.
Common cold or anything like that, but he go to the health planning on either campus and get to see it for medical professionals.
Last not least, when I want to highlight his trio trio, they serve and assist first generation college students. They had program starting in middle school all the way up through PMW during your bachelors degree. They even had programs, one for particular Magnier weather, prepare you to go on to Graduate School and get funding to pay for your Graduate School education. So awesome program with trio so they if you need any.
Help with tutoring outside of this are tunic. We have on campus. They take a lot of cultural an leadership opportunity kind of trips. They go down to different conferences with their students, see different landmarks like in Washington DC last year, they took students to see Campbellton.

Our local Purdue Alumni assoc awards Purdue scholarships every year. Could those be used at PNW or just Purdue main Campus?
Is Chicago and all these programs are free and benefits are free to students? So is that something that catches your eye? You're definitely more than welcome to reach out to the trio program or even the office of admissions that we could get you paired up with the trio Department and see how you can become a part of that.
It is typed in another question are local Purdue Alumni Association awards reduce colleges every year, cut those. We use the PNW or just the Purdue Main campus. So with the Purdue Alumni Association that is Alumni Association that's house out of Purdue, West Lafayette. But they do have different branches of that, so they do have one right here in Northwest Indiana and they do awards scholarships that could possibly use here. Actually any other Purdue campuses if you are awarded.
So.
You can apply when it's time to apply and make sure you read terms conditions. I believe, as I mentioned, the Northwest Indiana branch does offer a scholarship that could be used here if it's awarded to appear W student or it can be used at West Lafayette if it's awarded to West Lafayette student. But yeah, so awards can be used on our campus as well, but only that scholarship award let me make a clarification. So if you hear the scholarship from us and you wind up going to West Lafayette, that scholarship does not.
Go with you to West Lafayette.
And vice versa if you get a scholarship that's at the West Lafayette campus that's specific to their campus and you decide to come to our cameras, and we have this all the time where students will go to our campus, transfer their students, transferred there to here for whatever reason.
No, scholarships are not interchangeable, but an particularly to miss deb's question. The Purdue Alumni Association. Those scholarships, if they award those scholarships in in the terms conditions. They say this scholarship could be used at P&W or West Lafayette, or Purdue Fort Wayne. Those scholarships from the Alumni Association can be used as long as they indicated that through the scholarship self check with the local Purdue Alumni Association and see.
Just move for more clarification on that. I know like I said I know for sure the Northwest Indiana branch of the Purdue Alumni Association offers something, but I'm not sure if your local for doing online Association offers that same scholarship that can be used here.
So we do have a few new additions on campus. I first new edition is going to be the newest K Nelson Bio Science and innovation building, so it's a $40,000,000 building.
If our building for our biology and nursing students i'ma just open this semester so few weeks ago, just open. It's a beautiful building. I got the chance to walk through it a few weeks ago. Just very beautiful. Very state of the art industry. Standard equipment. Missed a lot of actually for nursing students. I love it because it looks like you're walking right into a hospital so you'll see the actual, you know hospital set up on each floor. It's a lot of Co curricular.
Space is so.
You're learning, not just individually you're learning as a group and as a class working the soft things as a unit.
Once you go into the workforce a lot of times in a lot of industries now aren't moving to that model. Always called it the Google model, so it's no more where it's just. You know, one desk or one office that you get your own things like that. Now is a lot of things are going to collaborative collaboration kind of things where.
It just may be one office where has a big open table with couches and TV. Things like that. Depending on the industry, but a lot of things are going that way now, and so we got a lot of our newer classroom set up that way to prepare you how to interact, which appears in others depending on which career field through the tend to go into.
Our second new additions going to be PNWE sports, so E sports will has or will begin this year. It is our 14th varsity athletic sport. We are the first public University in the state of Indiana to offer E sports at the varsity level. So that means is for students.
Probably always got in trouble for playing a game with your parents or your parents will say stop playing a game to do something with your life and stuff like that. Well, at least I know my parents did well. Now you could tell him hey I'm practicing so I can get a scholarship to go play E sports at the college level so.
Deb Gosselin

Are freshmen aow
So that is awesome. Miss Deb are freshman.
AOW Hey Mr, can you clarify your question? I'm not sure at AOW means.
And so our last new campus addition is actually hasn't been open yet, but it's going to be a student engineering design studio, so we're building an engineering design studio here on campus, is slated to open later this year. Early 2021 is going to be for engineering students where they could go in and collaborate with professors.
Organizations that come onto campus professional organizations engineering organization that come out to campus for mentorship and really design and do different research projects and design projects for engineering students. So we're really excited about that.
Are in the NCAA Division two. As I mentioned, we offer 16.
Athletic teens with E sports being one are only non varsity sport is going to be ice hockey, but we do compete against other universities. For example, West Lafayette. We convicted we compete against them. University of Michigan. The pool so even though it's not a varsity sport. It's a close button. We do travel and other universities travel to our campus to complete in ice hockey. But we have baseball basketball for men's and women's cross country Mens women's golf Mens women's soccer Mens and women's.
Uh, softball for women tennis Mens women's in volleyball for Mens women's.
This past year we had 32 athletes who were students and they also competed in athletics. They had a 4.0 GPA, so we love that because it shows that first before anything you are student first before athlete athletics are athletics Department house. Over 250 student athletes and out of that 250. As I mentioned, 32 and a 4.0 and then in 175 are student athletes had a 3.0.
So not only are they very competitive on the cord on the field, they're very competitive in our classroom.
So there is a recruiting process you can go to.
Stephan Piggee
12:56:44 PM
www.pnwathletics.com
The Athletics website where they have a question of recruiting questionnaire where you can fill out to find out how you can be, apart of PMW athletics. We are, we do have our mascot. We call him Leo the lion that she could see right there on your screen.

Allowed to be commuters?
And he represents the Purdue Northwest Pride. Someone's death. She clarified their question. She asks, are students allowed to commute? Yes, they are. So freshmans are allowed to commute. They do not have to stay in housing. Although we do have fresh when they do stay in housing and even other grade levels and stay in house and they get that college experience. But you are allowed to commute. I actually commuted during throughout my time here, but for me it was just a cost savings thing with me.
Being able to commute and save me a lot of money 'cause I didn't have to pay for housing, so I only had to pay for tuition and fees. But soon as are allowed to commute in and not required to stay in housing. Although we definitely want you to stay in housing to get the college experience, here's our team, the office of admissions. So you have my email address There again. My name is Steven Piggies, a second my official title here is associate director for recruitment and events. There's my email I believe.
Just about everyone was from southern Indiana and Indianapolis area. You will be working.
Uh, with myself for throughout your time, here at PNW. To get you throughout the admissions process, but any one of our team can answer your questions here. So this is our whole team. All their emails is there.
Now I'll take a quick tour of campus and then we will be right back for the ceiling panel.
Second twist, twist. Welcome to Purdue University.

We have been more student panel. It's coming in there's Alya.
We have a few more panelists coming in, and once they're all here.
We will go ahead and get started. We should have Hector Anne Frank coming up.
In the mean time, I'm gonna go ahead and get started with introduction, so I must go from an order how I see you guys on my screen. So Sam, you could go ahead and introduce yourself, tell us. Well I guess your name we all see again with the name.
Your grade level.
English and stuff like that.
Hello everyone, I'm Sam and I am a senior my major is Liberal studies in psychology, and Humanities. I'm involved in American Sign Language Club and Psychology Club, an one thing that I love about Purdue Northwest is the diverse and close knit community.
Alright, and then guys, when you're not when you guys not presenting, just make sure you meet your Mike so when I hit her feedback Taylor you're next.
OK Alright cool OK. Hi, I'm Taylor I'm a junior here and my major is finance and accounting. I'm also on the women's golf team so yeah.
Yes.
And where are you from Taylor?
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm from Fort Wayne IN so about 3 hours away.
Awesome Alia Europe.
I know.
We can hear you.
Alright, now we can't. I think you just need it yourself.
No, so I can hear you.
There you go. I think I kill you now.
No no.
Alright, so Frank we're going to move over to Frank and give Aaliyah time to pop back in.
Your your meeting too.
Yes.
Some are good now. Alright Hey guys, my name is Frank. I'm a senior marketing major sales minor president of Puma. The marketing club here on campus. Was there anything else you wanted us to say like a thing we like about PMW?
Yeah, one thing you like my PMW where you're from.
OK, so I'm from Chicago, but I'm living in dire now and one thing I like about PMW is E sports. I am super psyched that we're finally getting that a ball rolling. Really happy for us to be the first public school in Indiana to offer that the varsity level.
Cool thanks Frank Hector Europe.
Nick.
My.
Yeah, I can hear me right.
My perfect alright guys, what's going on? My name is Hector. I'm a senior communication major.
And I'm from Chicago. Born and bred and I moved to him about seven years ago.
Alexis Ford

Hey Stephen! I'm having issues. I clicked on the link but i am not showing up.
I like about PMW. Honestly, if there's one thing I would pick, it's the community. Like it doesn't matter who you surround yourself with, you're bound to find like a support system through the friends and the faculty. You know. People make it feel like a home away from home.
Also is there out of the shop.
Awesome and yeah, let's try Aaliyah one last time.
Yeah.
Do you see a microphone up top, Yep there you go there, you go?
Up now it's gone now you're gone again.
Is it? Is it? Is it green? Is the microphone highlight degree OK? Hit it.
Yeah hello.
There you go. Now I can hear yeah so when it's green you're muted when it's great you're not meeting.
OK.
Can we resume next time? I can't keep up with all these technologies anymore, so my name is Alia. Migrate level is. I am a junior major is in human resource management, an eye minor in communications. My hometown is ham and some things I'm involved with. I'm involved with Sherm, which is the human resource, says club on campus, and one thing I really enjoy about Padilla.
Inside I know some other members said it as well. But I have to agree the community is honestly, the best. Everyone is so sweet. And so great about if you have like any questions ever asked people are willing to give you an answer.

01:07:39 PM
does pnw accept 21st century scholars?
Alright, thank you, Leah um. So these are student panel. I've got a chance to actually know all five of these students very well within the last few years. So any questions you may have, whether it's with athletics or housing majors, you can ask those questions. I mean I know one question did just come in and it said does PMW except 21st century scholars?
So is anyone on the panel up member of 21st century scholars?
No OK, so I'm gonna go ahead and answer that so PMW actually does accept 21st century scholars. You actually looking at someone.
Who was a part of the 21st century scholars program and it helped out tremendously because it helped me pay for schooling, so we actually have a office in support of that trio. Education opportunity programs Department. We have a whole Department dedicated to 21st century scholars and they help you go throughout the process of making sure your scholarship is all set from now when you're in high school up into even while you're on campus, and a lot of their students get the chance to take apart of.
Those programs that's housing the trio Department so great question. I another question that just came in was how did you decide on the college that you chose and I'm open that up to anyone.
OK, so I originally chose pretty northwest because of I was recruited by the golf coach here, but once I came to campus and did like campus visit and all that, I really liked it. And like I saw the different communities within it and so that was like a really big thing. I wanted to feel welcome and everybody here was extremely welcome an just a lot of good people here that I really.
Liked right from the start, so that was good.
So I can also answer that I didn't really pick my college. I juggled around with a bunch of different.
Colleges that I.
Wanted to go to or wanted to be involved in so specifically in Purdue Northwest. I was in the school biology and then I transferred over to communications and in the end I decided to go to liberal studies because I was able to encompass all of my classes that I wanted to do and keep them in my diploma. So I was able to graduate on time.
On the next, I chose communication because it was very broad and I think it's an excellent jumping off point for anyone who's into like, you know, liberal arts or anything. From there. I mean, I transition to sales and you know, HTM and now I'm doing a certificate and health and nutrition management. So I'm kind of all over the place, but at the same time communication I think can help if you're kind of like me, you kind of need something to kind of narrow down, you know.
Like Oh, like you know, I like this better than this, and then just kind of keep chasing after that, you know.
Did I answer the crushed and incorrectly? Was asking like what how we chose our college major or how we chose PMW?
OK.
Our number yesterday perfectly, it's glitching out easy answers gonna be different. You know different people for different reasons, so yeah.
I would choose. I supposed to explain how I chose business. OK alright, cool things.
No, no, you're fine belia frankness. You wanna take that one.
Yeah, I could talk about this. My main factor was that I wanted to stay home because I'm saving a lot of money. It's only a 20 minute commute to campus for me and.
You know, compared to going to, let's say, main campus, you know I'm not only saving a lot of money, but getting a very, very good education compared to main campus. As far as our college business program goes, which I absolutely love. Everyone involved in the College of business is just great, super friendly and I feel like I'm learning a lot so.
Passed this well on Tulia.
Hello.
OK cool awesome. Alright, so we're choosing this college I originally was.
I was originally going to UN and which is University Northwest Indiana, everything because I wanted to do radiology, which is like more. Unlike the science biology side. I ended up thinking like maybe I should do a year of Purdue northwest to see how I like the college experience because I only live like 10 minutes away, and all that so I just like. Hey, I do my first year here.
And then I'll transfer. But I absolutely loved produce so much and like the closeness an like it wasn't like an overwhelmingly big campus either, so it just it just stuck with me.
Lana Batts
01:12:33 PM
What is student life like? Is there lots of activities near the campus?
Awesome, uh, so we have Lana. She just posted in the group in the chat. What is student life like? Is there lots of activities near the campus or on the campus? So is there a lot of activities on or near campus for student life?
Someone take that one real quick. I would say stay in life is robust here on campus so there's a lot of opportunities. If you're into you know athletics. If you're into, you know Uno or billiards and the clubs that we have the organization, so that's kind of where you can find your community and find your niche. And I mean, if nothing that we have happens to appeal to, you can actually make your own club or organization and you can kind of get that trend started so.
Doesn't matter if you're if you know what you're into or if you're trying to be a trendsetter of seeing. Life gives you opportunity to do either or or both.
There's also a lot of activities that are near campus and on campus that you're allowed to do so. I know there was like cupcake decorating competitions or pretty much anything like Hector said anything that you want to do. There's an opportunity to do so.
Yeah, one of my favorite events throughout the year, and even though I'm not a student, I must say I've answered to this question as well. It's gonna be late night madness, so every year right before the basketball team to get their season. I'm going campus community kind of come out and we support those scenes with late night manage so at a vents. Probably starts around 9:10 o'clock at night. So it's a late night event, but you can see the students lining up around will be called the fitness or Recreation Center or FRC.
Where are Jim is house on the Hammond campus? The kids a lot of like around 7:00 o'clock because they night it's going to be a lot of free food. Chick-fil-A Wendy's Culver's, Jimmy John's all this other stuff you get free swag on to help prepare you for the season and they have different giveaways to different competitions. So I know one year they gave out a PS4. They flat 55 inch screen TV. So I always like that event. It's just something really, really fun event. I mean you see kids just kind of.
Having a good time and it's always packed out. Another event There's something new that we just started doing hard about two years ago. It's gonna be homecoming and that's normally in I believe February towards the end of the of what we do since we don't have a football team on campus on homecoming is celebrating our basketball teams here and so we do homecoming in February. So those are just two of my favorite events that's here on campus. Next question and I'm gonna give you guys this question just because I see different backgrounds for everyone.
It's going to be. Do you live in the dorms at home or in your own house or apartment off campus? What are the pros and cons to each?
I'm sorry, go ahead. I live in the dorms here on campus. It's very convenient. Just walk across campus or have computer labs on every floor. Just go print out some things pretty easily, so I really like living here and I've met a ton of people just on the floor and my roommates and all that, so it's just really good thing to get to know people cons. The only thing is that they.
They check your ID every time which I mean, I guess is a good thing safety and all that, but they also have like a limitation of how many residents you can have at a time so but so it's not like come and go. However, many people. You can you want it's definitely like I mean, you know so many people in housing so took it way to meet people.
And before we move on Taylor, can you talk to the person? I guess not procedures. Well, I guess there's been procedures against worked, but the procedures that's put in place right now due to COVID-19 and saying in housing.
Yeah, so we're not allowed to have like before we were allowed to have up to 12 people up in our dorm and now it's where we want to have. Like if you have four people in your dorm, only like 1 per person, so eight people total and then you're not allowed to have any like like non residents in your dorms right now. So I can't check people in who don't live in housing else. Oh obviously mass at all time.
They're like making sure we're wearing them, and we're going to now an.
What else are they doing? They have lots of we have to fill out like a kobid self assessment everyday on bright space, which isn't too bad. I'm happy they're like monitoring everybody.
So yeah, I mean, they definitely have a lot of things put in place. Keep everybody safe so it's good.
Awesome, thanks a lot. Anybody else wanna take that question?
So I live off campus in my own house with a couple of roommates and I don't really think that there's any cons besides. I really did enjoy and the idea of living with other people on campus, but since I'm so close to campus and you know, I'm free to, you know, come and go without getting my ID checked. It's a lot easier.
But either way I I think that either opportunity is going to be a great one.
Also need anybody else. I want to take that question.
So.
And like I had a algeo Hector is.
Nah man, how are you?
OK, fine. Like I mentioned earlier, I still live at home with my parents and you know, saving the money, not having to pay for my own housing, whether it be on or off campus is very nice in regards to me eventually having to pay off my student loans in the long term.
Yeah, so I guess it really just depends on you know what your own priorities are in your needs. I mean, living on campus, you get that really close proximity living off campus. You save money. You know you probably not paying as much if you live with your you know family or roommates. So it really just comes down personal personal preference, but you can't really go wrong with either one.
Awesome, so for the sake of time we're going to have one last question and I believe a lot of you guys are probably off answered already, but it's gonna be my student organizations. They want to know in particular what clubs, organizations or even on campus employment. I'm actually guys are involved in.
And then part of the benefits to possibly being apart of those clubs or even on campus appointment on campus and then it. Then how do they go about joining or applying for some of those jobs on campus or clubs?
So I could take this one work for the office in new student orientation. So when you guys do eventually come to PMW and hopefully you know Cove is not as big of a problem, you'll get to come in, will have the whole day thing like we used to do versus this previous orientation season. We had people come into our parking garage and we were giving them out, backpacks full of student information about all the clubs. We're giving people, masks, water bottles, other swag.
Making sure everybody had their IDs and Whatnot and it was a lot of fun. The pay is pretty decent too for working on campus in most situations. I believe almost across the board it's about $10.00 an hour, which is really good for you. Know what we're doing.
It's really nice to interact with all the new students and anyone who needs help. I enjoy being able to help out people.
So I think there's a. There's a lot of variety, obviously in the clubs and organizations for my own personal experience, I'm in. Uh again, this is super unique and stuff just like PMW, but I'm in a Latino Co. Educational fraternities, so we accept, you know, male and female members.
Alpha Psi, Lambda and that in and of itself has opened so many more doors in terms of you know, social connections. Anna business connections. It's also allowed me to be a part of the campus, you know. We do a lot of like fundraisers, lot of events you know. So we're like we kind of bring we try to bring everyone on campus closer together, all simultaneously broadening our opportunities that we have.
Of course, though, here's a here's a great thing about BMW. Doesn't matter really which organization you join. They're all going to give you the same benefits. You know you'll expand your social circle. You'll gain access to potential job opportunities an you get to make a difference on campus. I mean, what could be better than that?
Off
are you go ahead.
Yeah hello hi yeah I'm going off of like what Hector said. Yeah don't ever feel like you have to limit yourself to like 1 box like if you are majoring in business. Don't ever feel like oh I only have to be in the business clubs. You can do whatever you want and that's the best part is to be able to meet people who are different walks of life coming from all over. Maybe they have a major that you're interested in a little bit more than the one that you're in right now and all that it goes for employment to. You're going to be meeting.
Lot of your coworkers and all of that. You're getting experience your you know meeting different like supervisors and all of that who you can use later as I've used for like references for like internships and things of that nature which is really great. So you're not like struggling to figure out who knows you the best when they're the ones that are watching overweight you do so. Always feel free to talk to anyone. Join clubs, apply for jobs, the world is your oyster.
Literally in college.
Awesome so we got time for one more answer and then we're gonna go ahead and enter the student panel.
So the question.
So.
I currently work as a campus ambassador, new student orientation leader an then community service at the desks and the dorms.
And personally working on campus. It gives you an opportunity to meet people. Say if you haven't joined clubs yet, so I've gotten some really good friends out of working. And you know all of these people on this student panel. I've all worked with them and they are all very good friends to me, so it's very nice to be able to join clubs and get a job on campus to be able to meet people.
And again, as I mentioned earlier, in my experience, when I was a student I worked on campus. The one thing that I regret about my colleague Springs was I did not get involved with clubs organizations. So I had the opportunity to go back and do it again. I would definitely do that, but I was working on campus and as I mentioned, I mean like all the panelists said, you get the chance. Get those opportunities that will explain experiences that will last a lifetime and even in my case, I truly believe that is the reason why I'm in this position now.
Because I was had that experience and I got to talk to people, know people.
I was in the hallway with the chancellor and some days I've been hard with the registrar, so people that have in some point point have status on campus. I was here on campus working and they saw me working on campus so I got talked to momma time and they knew my name. They knew my face and so then when opportunity came about for me to move on to a career.
The position was available and I truly believe that's because I was working on campus, so thank you. Also, the student panelist, Sam Taylor Frank Hector Analia. Thank you for joining us today. Thank you for giving your experiences to their perspective students and we will see you next time to the point you could go ahead and hit your broadcast button and you would disappear. See ya.
